Adra Karim and John Navid

This collaboration between Adra Karim and John Navid explores the possibilities of sound through improvisations on keyboard and a wide array of percussion instruments. The repertoire they will be presenting is replete with rich and varied compositions, musical colors and forms. John Navid is a percussionist and a member White Shoes and the Couples Company. Adra Karim plays the piano for the jazz fusion group Tomorrow People Ensemble and lectures at Institut Musik Daya Indonesia in Jakarta.

Dewa Budjana, String Quartet, and Vibraphone

With a wealth of experience of working with various groups throughout his career—for concerts as well as recordings—Dewa Budjana once again embarks on a musical collaboration, this time with a string quartet. Here, audience may find a repertoire that feels “more expansive” and unlike his other works. In addition, he will perform old favorites with new arrangements.

Trodon

This young-ish band performs progressive jazz rock pieces. Trodon’s music finds its influence in video game music as well as in classical music especially those of J. S. Bach, Gustav Holst, Igor Stravinsky, and Claude Debussy. Returning to Salihara Jazz Buzz for the second time with a solid formation and strong musicality, Trodon promises even more complex and unique pieces.

Trio Ligro

Trio Ligro’s style is contemporary jazz rock. Formed in 2004, the group is still going strong with the original members at its helm. Trio Ligro’s works show heavy influence from the group Mahavishnu Orchestra and the composer Olivier Messaien. In their latest album, listeners are treated to freestyle jazz with wild improvisations.

This is an exhibition of works by three young artists—winners of the 2016 Salihara Three Dimensional Art Competition—following the end of their respective residency programs in 2017. During their two-month long residencies, they conducted small-scale research on diverse media that they then developed and incorporated into their works.
